New: Legal Courtwatching Guide

Download in English here

Our new Legal Guide for Courtwatching – created in collaboration with the criminal defense law clinic Freie University Berlin – walks you through every step of the process. This guide goes beyond being a practical resource – it’s an invitation to engage in courtwatching as a form of activism. Courtwatching sheds light on the hidden mechanics of the criminal legal system, revealing how punishment is applied and to whom. It is a practice rooted in solidarity, a means to reframe justice, and a tool to shift power inside the courtroom. By putting racism on trial, we expose systemic injustices and build collective power for change.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • Practical tips – From preparing for your first observation to documenting the case.

  • Case examples – Insights from over 200 cases we've observed.

  • Legal essentials – Key legal knowledge to help you understand the procedures and participate confidently.
